Do The Little Things In Life Matter?

I was sitting down for lunch today when one of my friends at the table asked me why I had missed school the previous day. I casually replied saying that I hurt my back and couldn't walk or sit for more than 10 minutes. He quickly yelled and said, "You hurt your back? That isn't even a big deal!"
This sorta got me thinking.. 'What really matters?'... 'Does it change from person to person?'.. 'Isn't health important?'.

I guess the title isn't corresponding with the example above 'cause hurting your back is quite a big deal and the post is titled 'Little Things'. (Yes I love One Direction :P). Actually there is a lot that people don't understand about their peers, colleagues, mentors and people in general. There may be a lot of past experiences that educate their responses to certain situations but it could also be an act of impulse. "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me." true? I don't think so. Words can cut deeper than knives (Yes I love Shawn Mendes too <3). When I hear phrases like "Oh! It's no big deal", "Let it go" and mostly "Don't take it to heart", I think to myself "WHY NOT?" I can do whatever I please because it is my life and no one has the right to be rude to me.

Little things? A cut, a fall, a reply, criticism, an impulsive reply even, these are not little things. They matter. Consider this, Life.. Well, life is like the process of baking a cake. The flour, sugar and butter are the main parts or 'Big Things' but without baking powder, salt and sprinkles the cake would taste very very bad. I guess the point is that the little things do matter and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Just a pointer.. I didn't feel bad about what my friend said and this is not some kind of response to it. This post is just an overflow of thoughts and trust me I think of stuff weirder than this. Maybe I'll dedicate an entire post to that next time... xP

Till then,
Rachel
